Movies such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Predator, Frankenstein, Where the Wild Things Are, the Wizard of Oz, Harry Potter
would not be as possible without the aid of Movie Makeup.
Prototypes and mocks also help in the development of movies and even visual effects.
Grant Wood was a Regionalist. This means that most of his work relates to MidWestern life. Farmers and other laborers that work and live off the land. Regionalism refers to time before industry, a time period similar to the colonial and pioneer periods. Regionalism became popular and wide spread during the time of the Great Depression.
American Gothic is one of the best known iconic images of American artwork.
American Gothic refers to previous periods in Art History. The house is Gothic Revival (the window, the weather vane, the subtle church spire in the tree line).
The depicted time period is relatively unknown. The inclusion of the pitchfork is the only tool, and the image lacks depiction of technology. The apparel of the pair is reminiscant of an earlier time as well as "sunday best."
The female was modeled after Grant Wood's younger sister. The male was modeled after his dentist. The two did not pose for the painting nor did they stand in front of the house.

Guernica was created in response to the bombing of Guernica (located in Basque Country) by German and Italian warplanes.
This work depicts the tragedies of war and the suffering it inflicts on individuals, mainly innocent civilians. It shows suffering people, animals, and buildings wrenched by violence and chaos. Guernica is both a condemnation of war and a symbol of peace. It depicts the civilized world’s revulsion at a new type of mechanical warfare.
Picasso created this work while living in occupied France after being removed from his homeland due to the Spanish Civil War.
After the Guernica aerial bombing came the London Blitz, Dresden, Hiroshima, Hanoi, Baghdad, and others.
Picasso's career consisted of several periods in which he had specific trends and commonalities in his work.

The Thinker and many others of his more popular works derived from his work The Gates of Hell.
The Gates of Hell is based off from Dante's Inferno. The Three Shades, The Kiss,Ugolino, Fugit Amor, The Falling Man, The Prodigal Son, Biblical Adam and Eve, the mythological Prometheus.
The Thinker was originally titled The Poet refering to Dante himself.

Norman Rockwell

Born in New York City in 1894.
Wanted to be an artist early on and started art school at the age of 14.
At the age of 16 started working Boy's Life magazine.
Rockwell found great success in his twenties working for several magazine publications (Life, Literary Digest, Country Gentleman,The Saturday Evening Post).
Rockwell worked for the Post for 47 years, and published 321 paintings through the magazone.
In 1943, a fire destroyed his studio along with work and historical works.
In 1960, he published his autobiography, My Adventures as an Illustrator.
In 1961, he left the Post and started working for Look magazine.
Through Look Rockwell was able to explore political interests including his deepest concerns and interests, including civil rights, America’s war on poverty, and the exploration of space.
In 1973, he started work at the Old Corner House Stockbridge Historical Society, which later become the Norman Rockwell Museum located in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
Rockwell is the official state artist for the state of Massachusetts.
In 1977, Rockwell received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.

Vincent van Gogh
Sunflowers 1888(Still Life: Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers) part of a series Oil on Canvas 36 x 28 Inches Dutch artist and Post Impressionist painter born in 1853. Van Gogh's style was very expressive. He saw and painted the energy of the world. In some of his works, he didn’t even use a paint brush.Vincent's Life story is just as famous as his art. He was a hopeless romantic that fell in love many times. As a young boy, he studied theology. It wasn’t until 1880 that he became interested and passionate about art and began drawing. Van Gogh was part of a circle of artists experimenting with color, composition, and other elements in art. This group of artists were part of the post impressionist movement and inspired those of the expressionist movement. Among the circle of artists was Paul Gaugin. In 1888 Vincent van Gogh cut off the lower part of his ear after an argument with Gauguin. He then presented his ear to a prostitute as a gift (he thought she liked him). He suffered from hallucinations and feared that he was being poisoned. Eventually Van Gogh admitted himself to a mental asylum where he was diagnosed with an epileptic disorder. While in the mental hospital, he painted the gardens and surrounding environment. In 1890 Vincent van Gogh shoot and ultimately killed himself.

The major movement Pollock was part of was Abstract Expressionism.
Believed to have suffered from Bipolar Disorder in addition to Alcaholism.
Pollock's method of painting is spontaneous. The action of putting paint to canvas becomes the subject and moves from the figurative to the abstract.
He was influenced by native american sand painting, Pablo Picasso, Thomas Hart Benton, and Joan Miro.
Edgar Muller is a very popular current working artist whose work can be viewed at Art Prize this year!

The Scream, created between 1893-1910, is the title of expressionist paintings and prints in a series by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, depicting an agonized figure against a blood red sky. The landscape in the background is Oslofjord, viewed from the hill of Ekeberg, in Oslo.
In a page in his diary headed Nice 22.01.1892, Munch described his inspiration for the image thus:
Munch wrote of how the painting came to be: "I was walking down the road with two friends when the sun set; suddenly, the sky turned as red as blood. I stopped and leaned against the fence, feeling unspeakably tired. Tongues of fire and blood stretched over the bluish black fjord. My friends went on walking, while I lagged behind, shivering with fear. Then I heard the enormous, infinite scream of nature."
He later described the personal anguish behind the painting, “for several years I was almost mad…You know my picture, ‘’The Scream?’’ I was stretched to the limit—nature was screaming in my blood… After that I gave up hope ever of being able to love again.”

Go to YOUR portfolio page and open the discussion tab on YOUR page.
Click "New Post" label it- "Pixel Animator"
Write your paragraph in the "Comment" box and save.
